Summer Academy
Summer Academy
If you are a young, talented violist, violinist, cellist or pianist from 12 – 25 years of age you can register for the annual Summer Academy of the Aurora Festival. The chamber music festival with masterclasses, chamber music lessons and concerts takes place from July 17th - 26th 2024 in Groningen, The Netherlands. About 60 young musicians from all over the world will work intensively and on a high level on their technique and repertoire.
Individual lessons and masterclasses
The Aurora Festival offers you the opportunity to broaden your horizon. There are daily individual lessons and masterclasses for all instruments. Under the guidance of musicians, with established reputations both as teachers and performers, you will work on your technique and expression. Pianists are available to accompany the masterclasses and for individual practicing.
Chamber music
You can also register for chamber music lessons. Ensembles will be made out of all interested participants and you will be coached by chamber musicians of great expertise. You can also register with your own, existing ensemble.
Participatory ensembles
There is also a concert where the Participatory Ensembles will perform. These are ensembles which are made of both participants and teachers. Together you will work on repertoire and these will be performed on the special Participatory concert. The repertoire is:
- Johan Svendsen - String quintet op. 5 in C major
- Gabriël Fauré - Piano quartet no. 1 op. 15 in c minor
Festival orchestra
string participants can also register to take part in the Aurora Festival String Orchestra. With teacher Ilona Sie Dhian Ho you will study the Four Seasons by Antonio Vivaldi. For four violinist there is an opportunity to perform solo in one of the Seasons!
Concerts
There are daily lunch concerts where you have the opportunity to perform, both individually and with an ensemble/duo.
A series of chamber music concerts is connected to the Summer Academy. The teachers of the Summer Academy perform on these concerts. Participants of the Summer Academy can visit all the concerts for free.
Facilities
All activities will take place at the Prince Claus Conservatoire in Groningen which offers excellent facilities for festival participants: a wonderful concert hall and there are numerous practice rooms and classrooms. The conservatoire is situated near the centre of the city.
