Yoram Ish-Hurwitz

Pianist Yoram Ish-Hurwitz started his studies with Danièle Dechenne and Jan Wijn at the Sweelinck Conservatoire in Amsterdam. He continued his studies at the Juilliard School in New York with Hungarian pianist György Sándor as first Dutch student. After this he was accepted for the soloist-class of piano pedagogue Karl-Heinz Kämmerling in Hannover.

In 1988 he won the second prize at the Eduard Flipse Piano Competition in Rotterdam. Three years later he was unanimously awarded the Jacques Vonk Prize by an international jury. Since then Yoram performed in the Netherlands and many other countries such as Norway, Germany, Slowakia, Italy, the Czech Republic, Brittain, Belgium, Spain an the United States. He is a Steinway artist since 2003.

Besides the regular concerts Yoram has been working on a number of special projects, amongst which the Iberia-project which was organized in 2009 during the 150th-birthday year of the composer. ‘Iberia’ was a multi disciplinairy concert show with film and direction as leading elements. The show was performed over 30 times in The Netherlands and Belgium. Yoram also performed in the theatre production ‘The Pianist’ directed by Mette Bouhuijs. Edwin de Vries performed as the narrator who told the moving story of the Jewish pianist Szpilman during the Second World War.
Since a number of years Yoram is also very active in chamber music, amongst others with his cousin, violinist Noa Wildschut. Since 2010 Yoram is artistic leader of the Oranjewoud Festival, which was part of ‘Leeuwarden Cultural Capital 2018’.
