Vlad Ratiu

Vlad Rațiu began studying music at the age of 15, in his home town Cluj-Napoca, in Romania. Currently after finishing his bachelor studies under professor Ștefan Thomasz at the National University of Music in Bucharest, he is following a master’s degree program at the „Prins Claus Conservatorium” in Groningen, Netherlands, with profesor Sorin Orcinschi.


Vlad received masterclasses from Wynton Marsalis, Michael Sanderling, Lothar Zagrosek, Cristian Măcelaru, Cristian Mandeal, Vladimir Jurowsky, Sorin Orcinschi, Ștefan Thomasz, Dorin Marc, Cătalin Rotaru, Petru Iuga, Kostyak Botond, Cristian Braica, Gunars Upatnieks and many more.
During his musical journey he won several prizes in Romania and abroad.  


As a member of different ensembles, Vlad performed concerts in Europe, the Middle East and in the United States of America. Currently, he is the principal double bass of the National Youth Orchestra of Romania and the National Symphony Orchestra of Romania. Vlad also had the privilege to share the stage with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra and had an internship with the North Netherlands Orchestra in Groningen.
