Peter Stam

Peter Stam (1962) studied classical saxophone with Tom de Vette and Leo van Oostrom at the Rotterdams Conservatorium and the Koninklijk Conservatorium in The Hague. In The Hague he also studies orchestra conduction with Lucas Vis and Ed Spanjaard. He performed with most Dutch symphonic orchestras during his studies and was a member of the Rijnmond Saxophone Quartet, which toured in Europe and Asia.

Peter conducted many amateur symphonic orchestras and is saxophone teacher at the Prince Claus Conservatoire, where he also is coaching chamber music ensembles and arranging teacher.

He conducted various opera productions amongst which Mahagonny Songspiel (Weill), Trouble in Tahiti (Bernstein), A Hand of Bridge (Barber) and Blue Monday (Gershwin). In 2001 he worked with composer Wolfgang Rihm and he was guest conductor at the Parisian ensemble Alternance, where he conducted a number of world premières by composer Burkhardt Söll.
