Massimo Gon
Massimo Gon is a versatile musician and piano pedagogue. Having completed his piano studies in Trieste with the highest distinction under the guidance of Luciano Gante, he continued to study with Vincente Vitale in Naples and Nikita Magaloff in Geneva. He took part in numerous competitions in Italy and abroad and won various prizes, among them first prizes.
He made his debut with orchestra in 1975 with Rachmaninov III in the Teatro Verdi in Trieste, and after that performed with orchestra in the important concert halls of Italy. Abroad he performed in a.o. Moskow, St. Petersburg, Brussels, London, Zagreb, Bucharest, New York and Buenos Aires. He was also active in chamber music, a.o. with the violinist Felice Cusano and cellist Franco Maggio Ormezowsky.
Massimo Gon performed for radio and television, and made a number of CD registrations, among them one with works of Chopin and one with Liszt’s 12 Grandes Études. These received high acclaim for the poetic performance and sound, and the clear interpretation.
As a piano pedagogue Massimo Gon is much esteemed. Since years he is professor of piano and head of the piano department at the Conservatorio Guiseppe Tartini in Trieste, where he continuously with great dedication has inspired and educated young pianists. Individual talent development is central to him, and many of his students have won prizes and found their way to the concert stage. Massimo Gon gave masterclasses at various music academies, amongst them in Lisbon, London, Istanbul, Minsk, Sarajewo, Budapest, Riga and Sofia. He is a regularly invited member of jury in international piano competitions.
Massimo Gon’s versatility also shows in his work as cultural initiator; he curated a number of important artistic projects, and was a.o. the initiator of the international piano competition Stefano Marizza, which takes place since 19 years in Trieste, under his chairmanship.
For his activities Massimo Gon received an award of the City of Trieste.
