Martijn Willers
Dutch pianist Martijn Willers has been active in the Dutch music scene for many years. Listeners are always struck by his deep commitment to music, passionate collaboration, and vibrant interpretations.
His passion for making music together developed during his studies at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, where he was inspired by his fantastic teachers and fellow students. Here lies the foundation of his love for chamber music, which is a significant part of his musical life.
The duo with cellist Joris van den Berg, which won a prize at the International Johannes Brahms Chamber Music Competition in Pörtschach, Austria, in 2008, was formed in 2006. With heart and soul, the ensemble immerses itself in the music to convey the beauty of the pieces to the audience. Passion and dedication ensure high-quality performances. In 2013, the debut CD of the duo, 'Dialogo,' received high praise in the press. In May 2014, after a concert tour of major venues in the Netherlands, Joris van den Berg and Martijn Willers were winners of the Dutch Classical Talent Award. In June 2014, they had a very successful concert tour in China.
In recent years, Martijn and Joris, along with Olivier Patey (clarinet), have formed the Trio Légende. They have performed in venues such as the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and regularly play in various halls in the Netherlands. In the 2023-2024 season, Joris and Martijn, along with Svenja Staats (violin), will perform a beautiful program featuring three works from 1886 by Johannes Brahms (opus 99, 100, and 101).
Martijn also recorded a CD with double bassist Olivier Thierry titled "Bass ad libitum," released on the Gutman Records label.
As an accompanist, Martijn Willers can fully express his love for chamber music: he coaches students in ensemble playing and accompanies them in performances and exams. Currently, he works with string instruments and is also affiliated as a piano teacher at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam.
