Marion van den Akker

Dutch alt-mezzo Marion van den Akker has enjoyed an impressive international career of 35 years, during which she performed over 20 opera roles, appeared as a soloist with major orchestras, and gave many (international) song recitals with, among others, her late husband Rian de Waal, Paul Komen, Martijn van der Hoek, and Jeroen Sarphati. She was affiliated as a main subject teacher of singing at the Prins Claus Conservatory from 2006 to 2015 and served as vocal programmer within the Peter de Grote Festival during the same period. Now, she privately coaches many professional singers, and when it suits her, she performs concerts or an opera. Last year, she successfully portrayed the role of Auntie in the opera Peter Grimes, and in the upcoming season, she will perform the role of Novice in Suor Angelica by Puccini. Berlioz's Les nuits d'été is scheduled for May 2023, and this concert, a tribute to Kathleen Ferrier, will be performed at various locations. Additionally, she portrays the role of Clara Schumann in a production about the last years of Robert Schumann titled "Slapen zonder Schumann" (Sleeping without Schumann), together with actor Huib Ramaer and pianist Charlie Bo Meijering.
