Marcus Rook
Hailing from Sydney, Australia, Marcus completed his bachelor’s degree from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music under the tutelage of Dr Michael Duke. During this time, Marcus performed for the Sydney Conservatorium Wind Symphony, Saxophone Orchestra and in ‘Deciding Saxophone Quartet’ all while establishing a reputation as a highly effective and sought-after educator.
After being awarded a Hanze Music Scholarship, Marcus completed his master’s degree with a high distinction at Prince Claus Conservatoire, Groningen (NL), studying under renowned saxophonist Femke IJlstra (Syrene Quartet, Aurelia Quartet). As a member of ‘Kilig Saxophone quartet’, he reached the final of the illustrious Dutch chamber music competition, Grachtenfestival.
He has also performed in lessons and masterclasses for prominent saxophonists such as Arno Bornkamp (NL), Ties Mellema (NL), Niels Bijl (NL), Clifford Leaman (USA), Cristoph Enzel (GER), Joshua Hyde (AUS), Eva Van Grinsven (NL) and Lars Niederstrasser (NL), among many more.
Marcus is a versatile musician and a passionate advocate for the saxophone. His main musical goal is the promotion of the expressive and technical capabilities of the saxophone through chamber music, education, collaborating with composers and the commissioning of new repertoire.
