Lotus de Vries
Dutch violist Lotus de Vries is currently living in Berlin. She graduated with excellence for her Masters degree at the Hochschule für Musik “Hanns Eisler” Berlin studying with Tabea Zimmermann and Florian Peelman. Prior to this she was a student of Ervin Schiffer during her pre- college music studies and continued her bachelor's studies at the conservatory of Amsterdam with Francien Schatborn. Since June 2022 she enjoys playing in the Staatskapelle Berlin as part of the orchestra academy.
She frequently gets invited as a guest player to the Concertgebouw Orchestra, Camerata RCO, Boulez Ensemble Berlin, Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra, and Le Concert Olympique, amongst others. Having played under the batons of Bernard Haitink, Daniel Barenboim, Zubin Mehta, Daniele Gatti, Antonio Pappano, Lahav Shani, Pablo Heras Casado and Lorenzo Viotti.
Lotus has been a recipient of multiple scholarships and is a laureate of the Princess Christina Competition. She received a special award during the Peter the Great Festival in 2017. Her former string quartet (the Helikon Quartet) won the Kersjes String Quartet Scholarship 2020. With this ensemble she has performed extensively in halls such as the Concertgebouw, Tivoli Vredenburg and Muziekgebouw aan ’t IJ. She has been broadcast multiple times with her quartet as well as solo on Dutch national television and radio-shows like Podium Witteman and classical music channel Radio 4. The quartet recorded their debut CD “Introspect” with quartets by Dutch composer Maarten ter Horst in 2021 and recently recorded another CD “La Lumière’ in collaboration with soprano and initiator Bauwien van der Meer.
