Laura de Armas

Laura de Armas is a cellist born in the Canary Islands in 1996. She graduated from the Conservatorio
Superior de Música de Canarias, having done part of her studies at the Royal Welsh College of Music and
Drama. Laura currently lives in Groningen. Here she is part of Jan-Ype Nota's class at the Prins Claus
Conservatorium. Laura was recipient of the 2019/20 Fundación Mapfre Guanarteme Postgraduate in Music
Scholarship.

Laura is member of the Youth Orchestra of the Canary Islands (JOCAN), usually as first cello. In recent
years she has won the participation as an academist in concerts with the Noord Nederlands Orkest, Tenerife
Symphony Orchestra, the Cadaqués Symphony Orchestra. Laura has performed in projects such as Città Alta
Chamber Music Week, in Bergamo, Masters in Concert, and Sounds of Music Festival, in Groningen. She
has played in various venues, highlighting the Shanghai Concert Hall, De Oosterpoort and the Royal Albert
Hall. She has also expanded her training by having masterclasses with Michel Strauss, Robert Cohen, Stefan
Popov, Paul Watkins and Robert deMaine. Laura plays a French cello from the early 20th century, kindly
loaned by the ‘Prechal’ foundation.
