Insolitum

Insolitum is a duo founded in 2021 with the unusual lineup of trombone and bass clarinet, consisting of trombonist Giordano Mor (1996) and clarinetist Femke van den Bergh (1998). During their master's degree at the Prins Claus Conservatory in Groningen, they played together in several ensembles, which sparked their interest in exploring the combination of trombone and bass clarinet further. Both are wind instruments, one being a brass player and the other a woodwind player. Both instruments have their own unique timbre, but when they merge, they create completely new sounds.

Providing the audience with a carefree moment, whether in a concert hall or in unusual places, is what making music is all about for this duo. They have performed at festivals such as Out-doors Festival 2023 and Aurora Festival 2023. To showcase the wide range of possibilities of the instruments, a whole range of music styles will be featured, from (contemporary) classical to pop and jazz. The choice of instrumentation also allows them to perform among the audience and offer "person-centered improvisation."

Due to the uniqueness of this previously non-existent combination, all the repertoire is specially arranged or composed for them. They work closely with young composers from both inside and outside the country. Multiple works will premiere at the Grachtenfestival 2023.
