Florian Verweij
"The Arabesque of Schumann became pure poetry under his hands." - Dagblad van het Noorden (2023)
Pianist Florian Verweij (1997) distinguishes himself with his candid and imaginative playing, filling his music with poetry, narrative power, and spontaneity. "He is a true poet at the piano with an extensive technical arsenal, which he always utilizes in a deeply musical manner; someone with crystal-clear intelligence, sensitivity, and musical understanding," said pianist and Liszt specialist Leslie Howard.
In 2023, Florian made his debut at the Concertgebouw in a sold-out Kleine Zaal. Music magazine De Nieuwe Muze wrote, "he played with a sense of heroism and nobility" and "technically, the Dutch pianist's performance was extremely strong." Florian has been nominated for the Grachtenfestival Prize 2024, and his debut album will be released by Gutman Records in the fall.
In 2023, Florian completed his master's degree with the highest distinction under Naum Grubert at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. In 2020, he also graduated with the highest distinction in his bachelor's degree under piano pedagogue Jan Wijn. During his bachelor's studies, Florian was admitted to the class of Eliso Virsaladze in Italy, where he has been regularly attending lessons since then.
At a young age, Florian attracted attention with his candid playing in competitions. He won prizes at the Prinses Christina Concours, the Young Pianist Foundation Competition, and the Steinway Piano Competition. Recently, Florian won first prize at the International Magnus Piano Competition in Lithuania (2021) and was a finalist at the prestigious Ettlingen International Competition for Young Pianists (2018). He has performed as a soloist with the Amsterdam Sinfonietta and was a sought-after soloist with the Royal Netherlands Navy Band. Since 2018, Florian has regularly participated in family and school performances of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra. In recent years, he has been invited to perform in Spain, Lithuania, Georgia, Greece, Canada, and the USA.
