Coraline Groen

Coraline Groen is one of today’s finest young violinists, praised for her communicative, all-round and heartfelt playing. She obtained a bachelor’s degree from the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague, where she studied with Peter Brunt and Philippe Graffin. At the Royal Academy of Music in London she studied with Rodney Friend. She completed her master studies in The Hague with Vera Beths, receiving the highest possible marks and distinction for ,,her versatility, creativity, and her musical and inspiring personality”.

Coraline joined the second violins of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra on 1 February 2020. On the same day she won both the Oskar Back Prize and the audience prize of the Netherlands Violin Competition. According to the jury, she is ,,a very style-conscious performer, with a feeling for long lines. She has the guts to produce the most subdued sounds and quirky cadences. A violinist that exhibits exciting and noble playing.” She was a soloist with, amongst others, the Residentie Orchestra, the Athenaeum Kamerorkest and the Britten Youth String Orchestra.

Being a celebrated chamber musician, Coraline is founding member of the Volkmann Trio and multidisciplinary piano quintet De Formule. She has a duo with bayan player Robbrecht Van Cauwenberghe and she plays recitals with pianist Rik Kuppen. She has been a member of the academy of the Residentie Orchestra The Hague and the academy of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra (2018/2019). Coraline has participated in masterclasses at the Gustav Mahler Academy, the Cambridge International String Academy and the Festival Young Talent Schiermonnikoog.
