Backer Trio

Paulien, Vera, and Julius are three musically gifted children from the same family. They have been making music together in various formations for a long time, but only recently have they started performing as a trio. In addition to winning many individual prizes at both regional and national competitions, they have also recently won multiple awards as a trio. In 2022, the Backer Trio won third prize in the Regional Final of the Princess Christina Competition North, as well as the Ensemble Encouragement Award at the same competition.

They have participated in various courses and festivals, including the Aurora Festival (formerly the Peter de Grote Festival) and the Woudschoten Summer Course. They have taken lessons and masterclasses with musicians such as Marcel Baudet, Martijn Willers, and Diederik Ornée. The combination of violin, clarinet, and piano is an unusual one, with little music composed specifically for this ensemble. As a result, they often perform duo repertoire in different formations alongside their trio repertoire. This makes their concerts highly varied, showcasing all possible combinations of the instruments.
